Annual Caesar Salad Festival Comes Back to the World-Famous Salad's Birthplace: Tijuana

What do Diego Rivera, Caesar Salad, and nearly 3,000 hungry salad-lovers have in common? You'll find all of them at Tijuana's 2nd Annual Caesar Salad Festival, on Sunday, June 21, 2009 - featuring not only some of Tijuana's best restaurants, and the world-famous "original Caesar Salad" from Tijuana, but also an exclusive replica of Diego Rivera's masterpiece, "Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park." This family-oriented event is a great way to re-introduce Baja-lovers to Tijuana's safe and enjoyable Downtown Tourism District.

Tijuana, Baja California (PRWEB) -- This Sunday, June 21, 2009, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm, the Tijuana chapter of the National Chamber of Restaurants (CANIRAC), the City of Tijuana, and City of Tijuana's Convention and Visitors Bureau (COTUCO), and other sponsors, are once again celebrating the birth of a Tijuana legend: the Caesar Salad.

Only 20 days from Tijuana's 120th Birthday (and a month-long celebration of the city's founding, on July 11, 1889), residents and visitors will have the chance to enjoy some of Tijuana's culinary treats, while viewing a full-sized replica of one of the greatest works by Mexican muralist, Diego Rivera. "Having a great Caesar Salad is one of the many wonderful things you can find on our '120 Things To Do In Tijuana' website and list," mentions Ana Alicia Meneses, President of COTUCO. "Combining this great family-oriented Festival with yet another of Tijuana's strengths - arts and culture - gives visitors an opportunity to taste not only good food, but the distinct and unique combinations that represent the mixture of Mexican and U.S. culture in Tijuana, too."

In the more than 80 years since the first Caesar Salad was created on Avenida Revolucion, traditional and new variations of this dish continue to delight visitors to Tijuana, as well as salad lovers around the globe each day. "This second-annual Caesar Salad Festival is more than a fun and delicious way to spend a Sunday, it's also in honor of Tijuana's Guinness World Record for the largest Caesar Salad ever", said COTUCO's Meneses, referring to the 7,246 pound record set in 2007.

This Sunday's event will start at 12:00 noon in the Central Garden located between the City Hall (Palacio Municipal) and the State Government Building, in the heart of Tijuana's safe, Downtown Tourism District - and only a short distance from the newly-renovated Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) and the Plaza Rio Shopping Mall. This free event is open to the public, with dishes starting at less than $2 dollars, and just a short walk or quick ride (via taxi or bus) from the San Ysidro border crossing and the San Diego trolley line. Visitors to Tijuana can also map the location of the 2009 using 32.531312, -117.017988 as coordinates in GoogleMaps™.

The Tijuana Convention and Visitors Bureau also reminds visitors that U.S. Border Authorities now require passports or the new Passport Card during northbound border inspections, with more information available at www.GetYouHome.gov.
