Online and Email Newsletters Jump from 1,053 to 6,055 Over Last Five Years, According to Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters

Online and email newsletters jumped from 1,053 to 6,055 over the last five years, while print-only newsletters decreased 43% from 7,395 to 4,180. At the same time the number of newsletters in both print and electronic formats remained about the same, 4,859 vs. 4,949, according to the Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters 2009 edition, released today. The number of newsletters in the 2009 edition totaled 15,343 vs. 13,197 in the 2004 edition.

Over the last year, online and email newsletters grew from 5,485 to 6,055 while print-only versions of newsletters continued to decline, dropping from 4,873 to 4,180.

Legal newsletters continue to outnumber any other category in 2009, with 1,212 print and online newsletters. In addition to the Legal category, other top categories are Computers & Automation (1,039), Investment (930), Medicine (801), Health & Fitness (530) and Education (406). The same categories topped the list in 2004: Law (1,023), Medicine (715), Computers (664), Investment (603), Education (425) and Health (395).

"Overall, newsletters are holding their own in this media-threatening economy. There were 15,185 newsletters in the 2008 edition of the directory, and 15,343 in 2009," said Trish Hagood, President of Oxbridge Communications, Inc.
