Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Establishes Scholarship in Ergotron Founer Harry C. Sweere's Name

This four-year scholarship will be granted to a student pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering who has demonstrated above average scholastic achievement and shows financial need.

St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) July 6, 2005

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Board of Directors has established a perpetual scholarship to be awarded in recognition of Harry C. Sweere. Harry worked tirelessly on the VESA Display Systems Committee to establish a mounting interface standard for flat panel displays. The standard, which originated in 1999 as the Flat Panel Monitor Physical Mounting Interface Standard, is now known as the Flat Display Mounting Interface (FDMI) Standard. The FDMI Standard defines mounting interfaces and hole patterns for LCD monitors, plasma displays and other flat panel devices, and is being implemented globally by flat display manufacturers.

Bill Lempesis, Executive Director of VESA, explained, “Harry worked to drive the standard, not to his own benefit, or really even for Ergotron’s benefit, but to benefit the flat display industry as a whole. He had the vision to realize that by implementing the standard a win-win situation would result for flat display manufacturers, mounting manufacturers and end-users alike.” Joel Hazzard, Ergotron’s President and CEO commented, “Harry’s passion for improving the human interface with computer screens and digital displays was the geneses for the entire mounting industry. He was a pioneer, leader and a dear friend. We are all extremely appreciative of VESA’s acknowledgement of Harry’s efforts.”

This four-year scholarship will be granted to a student pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering who has demonstrated above average scholastic achievement and shows financial need. It will be given in perpetuity until VESA ceases to exist as an organization. For more information on the scholarship, visit http://www.ergotron.com.
