A Golden Celebration: As July 4th approaches, Thomas Stankovich is honored with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor

(PRWEB) July 2, 2005 -- This July 4th, among America's galaxy of diverse peoples, Serbian-Americans are voicing their American patriotism while paying homage to their roots. Recently, Thomas Stankovich (https://console.prweb.com/prweb/preview/only/50823/prweb530239.php?SESSION_ID=50823_do46619f44555e0), a Yugoslav, was publicly acknowledged for his social and economic endeavors.

Among those who have previously been honored are the following: six former presidents (Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, and Richard Nixon), Gen. Colin Powell, Frank Sinatra, Donald Trump, Lee Iacocca and Barbara Walters. The Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MP Biomedicals was presented with a 2005 Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

The Medal is a symbol that distinguishes Mr. Stankovich as someone who "represents the very essence of the American way of life." His contributions to American national identity are accompanied by his connection to "the distinct values and heritage of [his ancestors." The Award recognizes a person dedicated to the religious and political freedom America represents.

Alongside Independence Day, Serbs are working to raise awareness in politics about the region know as the former-Yugoslavia, and to bring attention to the voices of the Serbian Diaspora community. At the forefront of this movement is the Serbian Unity Congress, which is organizing Serbian Day in Washington on June 28-30 in collaboration with Senator George Voinovich, and Congresswoman Melissa (Luburich) Bean. With a planned visit to the White House followed by a briefing at the State Department.

Mr. Stankovich's experiences involve him in the business and political sphere and bring him into contact with prominent American representatives. When asked about a possible future in government, Mr. Stankovich stated that "anything is possible and it would be a wonderful opportunity." Given his past accomplishments, his potential for the position is clear. Through transforming the current business practices of Eastern Europe into business practices which more closely resembled the West or free market economies, Mr. Stankovich has succeeded in sharing American principles, and solidifying international relations and alliances.

Preceding his current position at of MP Biomedicals, Mr. Stankovich served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a biotechnology subsidiary of ICN Pharmaceuticals Inc., Ribapharm, Inc. (now renamed Valeant Pharmaceuticals International). With the fall of communism, ICN became one the leaders of the privatization movement in Eastern Europe. Because of Mr. Stankovich's work involving Eastern Europe's social and economic growth upheld by community support, he understands the value of ethnic communities in America, while working simultaneously as an America liaison and representative abroad.
