NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) July 3, 2005 -- As the guest blogger from July 5 through July 15 at the NRDC Action Fund Blog (http://blog.nrdcactionfund.org), renowned author and environmental journalist Dick Russell will share his observations on whales and fish.
Russells new book, STRIPER WARS: AN AMERICAN FISH STORY, was published this week by Island Press/Shearwater Books. A longtime sports fisherman, Russell spent the better part of three years fighting for stronger regulations to protect the endangered Atlantic striped bass. Today, the return of the striped bass is considered one of the foremost examples of the resiliency of the oceans. Russells account of the annual migration of the California gray whale, EYE OF THE WHALE, was named among the Best Books of 2001 by the LOS ANGELES TIMES and the WASHINGTON POST. Russell has also written dozens of articles about environmental issues, for publications ranging from THE NATION to PARENTING, and he is an active member of the Society of Environmental Journalists.
In his two weeks at the NRDC Action Fund Blog, Russell will discuss, among other topics, the dangers of overfishing and bottom trawling, Japans attempts to resume commercial whaling, and the renewed effort to protect the gray whale nursery at Laguna San Ignacio in Baja California, Mexico.
Hosted by the President of the NRDC Action Fund, Frances Beinecke, the NRDC Action Fund Blog (http://blog.nrdcactionfund.org/) gives readers the chance to exchange comments and get organized to take action.
