Sunshine Factory Presents A CAST OF CHARACTERS: Comic and Comic-Inspired Artwork

Sunshine Factory is delighted to present A CAST OF CHARACTERS, a vibrant selection of comic and comic-inspired artwork.

(PRWEB) July 13, 2005 -- From prehistoric cave drawings featuring unadorned images of animals through contemporary graphic novels addressing complex issues, comic imagery has been used to explore and reveal our personal and cultural landscapes.

Curated by Lois Stavsky, A CAST OF CHARACTERS features the artwork of twenty contemporary artists who use comic imagery to depict a diverse medley of real and imaginary characters.

Working on a range of media from found objects to canvas with pens, markers, pencils, paints and computers, all of the artists evince an energetic mastery of their craft.

With artwork that is playful yet thoughtful, often irreverent and at times strikingly beautiful, A CAST OF CHARACTERS delights and engages.

A CAST OF CHARACTERS features the artwork of Nelson X. Ascencio, Mike Cavallaro, Cern, Chris Cortes, Tina Gauthier, Eric Ginsberg, David Hjalte, Danny Kimanyen, Leonar Ma, Meres, Dani R. Mozeson, Richard Orlina, Mark Pecoraro, Michael Ponce, Albert Powell, James Pyle, Mike Rimbaud, Brad Silverman, Shaun Thurston, Jack Tsai, and Kui Zhao.

A CAST OF CHARACTERS opened on June 5 and continues until September 5. A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, July 21 6 - 8 pm at Sunshine Factory.

The gallery is located at 11 Essex Street between Canal and Hester Streets. Gallery hours are Monday -- Friday, 8am to 5pm and Sunday 9am to 5pm or by appointment.
