New Tools Help Parents Reinforce Anti-Smoking Message

Multi-media approach keeps "no smoking" message relevant and fresh.

Greensboro, N.C. (Vocus) July 8, 2009 -- Black-and-white movies, eight-track tapes, cassettes--these things are just antiques to most kids. The youth-smoking-prevention experts at "Real Parents. Real Answers." hope to make underage smoking a thing of the past as well, by offering new multimedia tools to fight youth smoking.

Parents, relatives and even teachers and administrators are now able to order a DVD on www.RealParentsRealAnswers.com which provides a full hour of conversation between parents and Dr. Michael Popkin, psychologist, founder of Active Parenting Publishers and author of several video-based parenting education programs. Whether parents use the DVD as a starting point to initiate their own conversations or watch it with children, the DVD gives good suggestions and answers the hard questions about their young people and smoking.

In addition to the DVD, several free resources are now available through "Real Parents. Real Answers." which can help any parent tackle the subject of underage smoking. The updated multimedia page can hook parents up with two new audio podcasts, giving them the chance to hear substantial dialogue on a subject that can be hard for some to broach. Two free brochures are available for download as well, one with parenting tips and the other with a Q & A format that can raise questions parents may not have thought of on their own. Parenting groups can order multiple copies the new Q&A brochures free of charge from "Real Parents. Real Answers." to provide the valuable information to its members. Even the youngest children are included--there's a free download of a kid-friendly song with an anti-smoking message (www.RealParentsRealAnswers.com) for parents to use with their youngest family members.

As always, the "Real Parents. Real Answers." program, sponsored by the Lorillard Tobacco Company, is ahead of the curve when it comes to user-friendly ways to engage kids in meaningful dialogue. Parents and teachers can visit www.RealParentsRealAnswers.com for downloadable podcasts, videos and community messaging to support them as they do the hard work of raising tobacco-free kids.

Real Parents, Real Answers, Lorillard Tobacco Company's Youth Smoking Prevention (www.RealParentsRealAnswers.com) Program, is a voluntary effort designed to enlist parents in the fight against underage smoking. Greensboro, N.C.-based Lorillard also is committed to curbing youth access to cigarettes as a founding member and major partner of the "We Card" program.
