Rubb Designs Launch Pad Cover for Wallops Island MLAS Flight Facility

Rubb Building Systems, a world leading designer and manufacturer of tension membrane relocatable structures and aircraft hangars, today announced the completion of a facility used on Wallops Island, Virginia. Over a 13-month period beginning in February of 2008, Rubb's design and fabrication team worked closely with the Wallops Island Flight Facility to engineer, manufacture and install a high (50') wall structure to support the facility's MLAS (Max Launch Abort System) program.

Over a 13-month period beginning in February of 2008, Rubb's design and fabrication team worked closely with the Wallops Island Flight Facility to engineer, manufacture and install a high (50') wall structure to support the facility's MLAS (Max Launch Abort System) program.

The moveable BVE structure (http://www.rubb.com/rubb-building-types-BVE.asp), measuring 50' wide by 50' in length, featured a transport system using Hilman Rollers and a large 45' w x 35' tall vertical lift fabric door. The 25-ton structure can be safely moved from the launch pad to a mission-ready position 200' away in less than thirty minutes.
