Valiant Little Novel Does Battle With Blockbusters

Timothys Take-Out" may be of humble origins, but it has the heart of a lion. Expect it to be fighting tooth-and-nail for shelf space long after its eccentric author has bitten the dust.

(PRWEB) July 25, 2005 -- Timothys Take-Out" does so many things well it is difficult to offer a concise explanation for its appeal. With its resort town setting and preoccupation with fast food it is undoubtedly the perfect novel to take to the beach or cottage. Perhaps it is the unexpected plot developments that so captivate readers, or the cleverly paced interludes of craziness and calm.

Timothys Take-Out" is the story of not-so-loveable-loser Carl Fellows, and of the various nut cases he encounters during the worst three-and-a-half years of his existence. Ambitious but talent less, young Fellows is a frustrated individual to say the least; contributing to his frustration is Timothys Take-Out, the colossal hellhole of a restaurant he takes a job at (mostly to experience summer at the beach"), and the neighborhood bully boys (who seem fixated on his beach house.)

Carls attempts at bettering himself are fun to witness, clumsy as they are. If he had put as much effort into college as he was currently putting into pie-in-the-sky endeavors like cartooning, boxing, and songwriting, hed probably be a doctor or lawyer by now. In other words: Hed be taking care of his parents, they wouldnt be taking care of him.

This is a wonderful debut novel from author Paul J. Barker. It is greater than the sum of its parts somehow -- and each individual part is impressive. Anyone in need of a good laugh should pick up a copy, if only to support Barker in his mad quest to dethrone Harry Potter and co. Timothys Take-Out" (ISBN # 1-4137-3164-3) is readily available at the authors site (www.dontlikemyjob.com) or whatever online bookstore strikes your fancy, such as Amazon.com.
