Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 21, 2009

DDL, leader in medical device package, product and material testing, announced that via findings from their 2nd quarter "Packaging Quizzler" more than 60 percent of medical device packaging professionals understand that performance testing and stability testing are separate entities per ISO 11607.

The most recent "Packaging Quizzler" quizzed medical device packaging professionals on whether performance testing, such as shock and vibration testing, and stability testing (accelerated aging) are separate entities per ISO 11607 standards.

Performance Testing and stability testing are considered separate entities because performance testing is considered a dynamic and stability testing (accelerated aging) is considered a stagnant event," Scott Levy, Packaging Engineer at DDL, said.

The winner, Jeannie Eugenio, of Medtronic Vascular, used her knowledge of difference between performance testing and stability testing to correctly answer the quizzler question. "I've worked in package design, development, and testing for pharmaceuticals and medical devices for many years and am able to understand the dynamic differences between the two events," Jeannie said.

Performance testing is performed to ensure that the sterility maintenance is maintained through shock and vibration testing. Stability testing (accelerated aging) is performed by subjecting the package and or product to time and temperature testing to see if there are any adverse effects caused by the aging process.
