(PRWEB) August 7, 2005 --

How the Australian States stand:

1.    NSW    31%

2.    WA    30%

3.    QLD    20%

4.    VIC    15%

5.    SA    4.3%

6.    TAS    1.3%

7.    NT    0.8%

The table is based on the total number of paternity tests requested from DNA Bioservices in the past 3 months.

Gary Miller, Managing Director, DNA Bioservices, comments:

"Paternity testing is a rapidly growing market, partly because births outside marriage have grown by more than 10% in the past decade. Relationships between child-bearing couples are becoming more informal and temporary which means paternity issues are likely to arise more frequently."

Up to 5,000 paternity tests are currently conducted in Australia each year and this number is increasing rapidly. The number of paternity tests being taken has increased tenfold in the last decade and is increasing at 11% per year worldwide.

Gary Miller added Caution should be exercised when choosing a DNA testing company -- always look to see if the laboratory is accredited by NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) and based in Australia-- cases are now being reported of people using a NON-Accredited facilities and wrong reports being issued the consequences of this can be very traumatic for all parties concerned."

DNA Bioservices was established in April 2005. It is focused on providing reliable and confidential DNA products, including 'peace of mind' testing for consumers and legal testing for courts and legal disputes. Services include paternity testing; sibling verification; DNA storage and profiling.
