Post Office Travel Insurance Reveals Over-65s Leading the 'Econocation' Revolution

14 per cent have experienced difficulties getting Travel Insurance in the past

London, UK (PRWeb UK) July 31, 2009

New research from Post Office Travel Insurance shows that over-65 year olds are currently looking to save money on holidays by having 'econocations' - staying with friends and family to save money on vacation.

The Post Office Travel Insurance findings also show that one in five over-65s has experienced difficulties in getting travel insurance in the past. In response to this trend, Post Office Travel Insurance has recently extended its multi-trip annual travel insurance policy to cater for this age group.

The research found that 38 per cent of the UK's over-65s are looking to stay with friends and family while on holiday this year, while 11 per cent will stay in the UK rather than heading abroad. Sixteen per cent are not going on holiday at all, 9 per cent are looking for cheaper ways to holiday abroad, and 4 per cent are swapping long breaks for shorter breaks. For those seeking to cut costs on holiday, Post Office Travel Insurance recommends seeking out cheap travel insurance even if holidaying with friends or in the UK to ensure holidaymakers are covered for illness, if they are victims of crime, or travel disruption, such as missed flights or lost luggage.

Rachel Croft, Post Office Travel Insurance manager, said: "We have extended the age limit on our annual travel insurance policy to cater for this new breed of traveller. However, whatever your age and whether you plan to pay for accommodation or not, it is essential to get comprehensive travel insurance to give you peace of mind."
