Oceanside, California Elementary Teachers Search for Company or Individuals to Adopt Their Classrooms for Science and Literature Project

Oceanside Lake Elementary teachers Ranae Mathias, fifth grade, and Julie Vivaldi, fourth grade, are seeking funds through the non-profit online program, Adopt-A-Classroom, to implement a science and literature project for their classrooms next Fall.

(PRWEB) August 8, 2005 -- Kathe Gogolewski, a retired elementary teacher from the San Francisco Bay Area, has agreed to write the curriculum integrating language arts and science into a comprehensive unit. Children will use Gogolewskis book, TATO, a fantasy adventure story, as the inspiration for both the science experiments and in-depth character analyses. Gogolewski donates her services, but funds are needed to purchase materials.

As the story revolves around a boy and a lot of magic, children will perform science experiments dealing with light, colors, and mirrors that explain a number of illusions in the story. They will track their experiments in journals using the scientific method. For language arts, children will engage in a number of character studies. Some of these activities include creating their own character report cards where different personality traits are graded and explained, drawing wanted posters for the villain and using checker boards and chips to assess events in the story.

Interested parties may adopt one of both classrooms at Adopt-A-Classroom, http://www.adoptaclassroom.com, and organization that fosters community involvement in schools by harnessing resources of the community and internet to enrich the classroom. A merchandise credit of $500, the entire donation, is established for the adopted classroom. Communication between classrooms and donors are encouraged.
