Mambo Hot Rodders Announce JamboWorks for Business

An elite Mambo team has officially launched its brand, products and expansive aims to coincide with the San Francisco LinuxWorld Conference and Expo.

(PRWEB) August 9, 2005

A venture where the freedom of Open Source software is supported by business acumen and systems has emerged in the form of JamboWorks.

The new joint-venture based in New York sees the power and simplicity of the world’s most popular free web publishing system, Mambo, combined with high-level solutions, support and training.

JamboWorks, which has been formed by three core developers of Mambo and entrepreneur Ethan Agai, is likely to revolutionize how IT managers and marketers think about free software.

In the past, Free or Open Source software (FOSS) has been considered too risky for power users in business. Despite Mambo being recognized as the “best business solution” by industry peers, for some it fails to be supported by professional technical support.

JamboWorks CEO Ethan Agai believes attitudes to open source software will change dramatically with the advent of JamboWorks solutions, which are based on Mambo. “As we say, JamboWorks is ‘where Mambo meets business’,” he said.

The Mambo phenomena has seen the point-and-click publishing solution deliver powerful web publishing to individuals, small business and large organizations. With more than 3 million downloads and an estimated 500,000 Mambo-powered websites, Mr Agai believes the next step for power Mambo users is professional support.

“If there was a missing piece in the FOSS jigsaw, it’s been pro-level support, training and bespoke implementation,” he said. “This is where JamboWorks fits in — we have some of the leading developers, designers and solutions minds in our team. IT managers will be able to tap into these resources with confidence.”

JamboWorks Chief Technology Officer Mitch Pirtle, who is a core developer of Mambo, said JamboWorks would be ‘hot rodding’ Mambo for professional business applications. He said many of the technologies born in the JamboWorks lab would eventually be released as GPL for the Open Source Community.

“Some people believe business and Open Source can’t co-exist,” Mr Pirtle said. “In our case, JamboWorks will be investing time and money into making Mambo better than ever,” he said.

“You could call it a symbiotic relationship,” Mr Pirtle said. “We have a philosophy that by being transparent about our aims, the Open Source movement will understand the benefit of improved organization and strategic muscle behind Mambo projects.”

“We have some great ideas which would never have seen the light of day without JamboWorks being created. Typically, they will be released under GPL license. This way we can further the project and better support both developers and power users,” Mr Pirtle said.

Mr Agai, Mr Pirtle and JamboWorks Senior Vice President Andy Miller will be attending the LinuxWorld Expo, San Francisco, 8-11 August, held at the Moscone Center.

“We will be meeting and speaking with users and prospective users of Open Source solutions and we will be evangelizing the Mambo platform,” he said.

As a JamboWorks once off, Mr Agai said the company was offering free membership to the popular template club “to anyone who spots me and hands me their business card.”

The JamboWorks template club consists of template work by Mambo core developer Andy Miller. “I like to call Andy the ‘man with the golden hands’,” Mr Agai said. “His designs and ability to squeeze the most out of Mambo are hailed by users and industry peers.”

“So, don’t be shy … find me at Moscone, introduce yourself and put your business card in my hand and membership access until the end of the year is yours!”

Editor’s Note: Andrew Eddie, Senior Vice President of JamboWorks and lead core developer of Mambo will not be attending the San Francisco expo however he will be delivering a keynote address, representing Mambo, at the forthcoming LinuxWorld Conference and Expo, in London.
