Good Samaritan Hospital To Host 17th Annual "Walk to Remember"

Event recognizes National Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month; culminates with a memorial ceremony.

(PRWEB) August 12, 2005 -- The Perinatal Bereavement Support Program at Good Samaritan Hospital will be hosting the 17th annual Walk to Remember" on Sunday, October 2. The walk, followed by a special ceremony, will honor the memory of the approximately 870,000 babies who die each year through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or newborn death.

As part of a national program, the Walk to Remember" is held each year throughout October, which is National Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month. Everyone is welcome to attend-family, friends and other bereaved families.

Many people who experience the loss of a newborn or child during pregnancy often go through periods of feeling extreme isolation. Events, such as 'Walk to Remember' help parents, friends and families symbolically join together throughout the country to honor the precious babies whose short lives have touched the hearts of many," said Pam Magi, RN, director of Good Samaritans Perinatal Bereavement Support Program.

The event will commence at the municipal parking lot on Chestnut Street (across from the Post Office) in Suffern at 1:00 pm. Walkers will depart promptly at 1:30 pm to Good Samaritan Hospital where a memorial ceremony will be held followed by light refreshments. Rides back to the parking lot after the program will be available.

The Walk" will take place rain or shine. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the hospital auditorium at 2:00 pm. For further information, participants can call Pam Magi or Eileen Fioramonti at (845) 368-5297.
