Inside Higher Ed Names "Hot Hires" at Colleges and Universities

New series launched on professors hired to raise the profiles of large and small institutions in higher education.

(PRWEB) August 13, 2005 -- Increasingly, a college brings in a new faculty member not just to fill an empty position, but to send a message about its priorities for teaching and research, and about how the college wants to be seen in the intensifying competition for students, grants and respect.

Starting August 11th, Inside Higher Ed names the "Hot Hires" at campuses nationwide. The first list will include an acclaimed Caribbean/British novelist who is moving to Yale, a business professor expected to increase the research stature of the University of Texas at San Antonio and a New Testament scholar leaving a seminary presidency to teach at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Some Hot Hires" are world-famous and have generated intense bidding wars among institutions, while others arent household names but are being brought in to fill key niches.

Inside Higher Eds "Hot Hires" series will appear twice a week for the next month on www.insidehighered.com, featuring key academics moving into new positions at large and small institutions nationwide. Nominations for the series were sought by Inside Higher Ed editors from faculty members and administrators at a wide variety of institutions.
