Open Source for SMB

New services from Connect Computing stay ontrack offering small and medium businesses e-commerce and web solutions.

(PRWEB) August 15, 2005 -- Connect Computing has begun offering services that include the new version of OSCommerce as well as the OSCommerce plugin for Mambo. The end result is a complete content management/e-commerce solution that is completely based on free and open source code.

"We started working on two websites for a couple of non-profit organizations." They loved the results and it only took us a few days to get everything setup for them.", stated Roy Hoobler of Connect Computing.

Connect Computing also is developing a better price structure for SMB's so the start up cost can be minimal. The new structure takes the startup cost (up to $2000) and pro-rates it into the first 12 months of hosting. This makes the initial investment a couple of hundred dollars instead of the thousands. Mr. Hoobler also stated "For most customers, the startup cost would be about $600 to $1,000. If they have many items to setup in the system, need a quick integration, a special feature, or a special design; then the cost may reach $2000".

OSCommerce and Mambo are continuing to gain momentum in the SBM market place. This week, intergratedmar.com had an article how SMB companies are loosing revenue by not getting "on-line". Connect Computing believes that with Free and Open Source Solutions, this should not be a problem.

According to Roy, "It is not really about Linux or Open Source (they are great) but about how small and medium businesses can use technology without spending a lot of money. If they really need the business to grow, they can spend their money on advertising and promotions - not software. Just like any brick and mortor business".
