Allergist in Sugar Land, Texas Says Uncontrolled Allergies And Asthma Can Lead To Fatigue and Poor Performance In School Or Work

Joseph R. Perez, M.D. discusses his experiences with allergies in Houston and how this drove his career decision. He started Allergy and Asthma Care of Houston to help Houstonians get relief from allergy triggers in the area.

(PRWEB) August 17, 2005

Although Dr. Perez is establishing a new allergy practice in Sugarland, he is no stranger to Houston. After completing college at Texas A&M University, he attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed residency at Scott & White Hospital, and specialty training in Allergy & Immunology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

However, it was living in Houston where he first experienced diversity on a broad scale, not only culturally but also with regard to allergy and asthma triggers. "I couldn't believe the trouble I was having with my allergies in Houston, I often fell asleep in medical school classes and finally realized that my uncontrolled allergies and asthma were disrupting my nighttime sleep. After seeing an allergist, I was able to focus much better, I felt less fatigued, and most importantly, I stayed awake in class," says Dr. Perez.

It's because of his experiences in Houston, that Dr. Perez decided to do fellowship in Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. "I wanted to come back to the Houston area to help those suffering miserably from their allergies and asthma. Many people don't realize that uncontrolled allergies and asthma often lead to poor performance in school or work because of sleep disruption or the use of over-sedating medications," says Dr. Perez. He notes that his primary goal is to make people feel better. He accomplishes this by implementing several tools used by allergists to help diagnose and treat patients. "By improving the way people feel, you help them not only physically, but also mentally," says Dr. Perez.
