Classical Music Podcast Gains Worldwide Audience

Music Perspectives, the classical music podcast, published its tenth episode last month, to a growing worldwide audience.

The web stats for Music Perspectives show hits from countries on every continent. Hits on the actual sound files confirm the international trend, with downloads occurring in such diverse countries as Malaysia, Chile, New Zealand, and Mexico. In addition, an opera enthusiast in Brazil linked the podcast to his blog, exposing the podcast to even more Brazilian music fans.

"These statistics prove that music truly is the international language, and that the Internet is a great communications medium for bringing a world-wide community together," Justen says.

The podcast premiered in late June with a discussion of 20th century composer Percy Grainger. Subsequent shows have covered topics such as Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, Rossinni's famed crescendo, and the different types of color and texture heard in music.

"Future plans include a month-long tribute to the great German composers, four shows dedicated to each period in music history, and holiday music from around the world," Justen says. Even though several other classically themed podcast have popped up, Music Perspectives remains the only podcast to be updated on a regular basis.
