Some cities have a small processing fee they charge, while a growing number of cities now offer the lists free online. My first list from City Hall cost a whopping $7, now it’s free. Ask what format they provide the lists in, as some offer them in excel, pdf, or a print out. Not only are these lists the freshest, they are also very accurate, so you will see very limited return mail pieces because of this. Usually they archive the lists by month, so you can ask for several months worth of lists. Believe it or not, this is where a lot of list companies get there "new businesses" lists from, then resell them to clients. You shouldn't have to pay for something when you can get it for free.
