Putumayo World Music Donates Proceeds to Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts Record label gives support to grief stricken Louisiana and Mississippi and encourages donations of musical instruments New York, NY (PRWEB) September 2, 2005 In light of the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi, Putumayo World Music is donating all of its proceeds from its critically acclaimed albums New Orleans and Mississippi Blues to relief efforts in the area through the end of the year. Putumayo World Music has a long history of contributing to charitable efforts in various quarters of the world. The rich musical traditions captured on New Orleans and Mississippi Blues are a testament to the strong character of the people and their unique cultural legacy. The necessity for redevelopment of these regions is imperative to preserve the heritage that has influenced virtually every aspect of our culture and arts - from jazz to rhythm and blues to rock and beyond. The donation of proceeds from the two albums is a token of appreciation for the music Louisiana and Mississippi have given us. Additionally, Putumayo World Music is supporting efforts by the Tipatina's Foundation in conjunction with the New Orleans Musician Relief Fund to provide instruments to musicians displaced by Hurricane Katrina . Putumayo would like to commend GEM Pawnbrokers who generously donated over $3,300 worth of used instruments to the cause including saxophones, clarinets, a violin, guitars and various string instruments. All donations are welcomed. For more information please contact: Crissa Requate, (212) 625-1400 x226 Josephine Zohny, (212) 625-1400 x230 # # #
