Nightengale Press Announces "The Finchley House Mystery" by Delores Gapanowicz -- Thriller for Young Readers Packs Educational Punch for 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair

Educationally sound for middle elementary students, home schoolers, and foreign English language learners alike, author Delores Gapanowicz writes a humorously chilling tale that keeps the tension high and the young readers interest engaged from start to finish.

(PRWEB) September 13, 2005 -- Is the Finchley House haunted or not? Are those ghosts flitting from room to room after dark? Or is someone secretly living in the old house and not wanting to reveal themselves? Could it be the rumors floating around Green Hills are actually true? No one dared to investigate until Paul and Tom decided to find out once and for all. The boys and their sisters dared to go up the hill toward the old house and their adventure began - scary from the start. With the breadth and depth of a full teaching career to support her and with the gentle understanding of a veteran educator, author Delores Gapanowicz writes a humorously chilling tale that keeps the tension high and the young readers interest engaged from start to finish.

Knowing there is a growing market for readers that meet the needs of ESL, TESL and all young English as a Foreign Language learners around the globe, publisher Valerie Connelly of Nightengale Press convinced Ms. Gapanowicz to develop a comprehensive study guide, which would provide chapter by chapter questions to aid the foreign students understanding of the tale. There is a second study section which provides engaging discussion questions, again arranged chapter by chapter, to aid teachers and parents in stimulating discussion about the story. The Glossary at the end of the book is intended to help young readers increase their vocabulary skills, and is suitable for native English speakers and foreign English language learners as well.

I have background in teaching English as a Second Language both in the United States and in Africa myself, and when I read Deloress wonderful tale, I could see the books potential for great success as an educational reader," Ms. Connelly said. This book is suitable for young readers in the middle elementary years in the United States, and for secondary level intermediate language learners in the foreign classroom. Teachers and parents alike will find the study guide questions and the discussion questions very helpful. It is also ideal for the growing legions of home-school parents who are looking for tasteful yet entertaining reading for their elementary school aged children."

Although she is now retired and living in SE Wisconsin, Ms. Gapanowicz lived for two years in Uganda, East Africa as a lay teacher for the Vernoa Fathers, a Catholic Mission organization. She taught literature and art to high school aged girls. She earned her degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a B.A. in Art History, a B.F.A. at Dominican College in Racine, Wisconsin and a major in Elementary Education at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she settled after returning from Africa and taught in the elementary schools until her retirement. Besides socializing with family and friends, Ms. Gapanowicz enjoys traveling, drawing, painting and reading.

Loris Essary, Director of International Titles, based in Austin, Texas will represent this new educational reader at the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, Frankfurt, Germany this coming October.
