Caribbean reef Los Roques of Venezuela

Those that will come to Los Roques to observe fish that are not seen in other localities of the Caribbean will not be disappointed.

(PRWEB) September 15, 2005 -- From a study made by the Professors of Howard Choat of the University of Jasmes Cook of Australia, Dr Ross Robertson of the Institute Smithsonian of Tropical Investigations of Panama and Dr Juan M. Posada of University Simon Bolivar of Venezuela:

This study that published its conclusions in August of 2001, was based on the measurement of population, size and index of growth of: surgeons, pargos, roosters, mere and guacamayas; he allows to evaluate the conditions of his reefs, comparing them with other reefs of the Caribbean; it assures that "the ARCHIPELAGO OF the ROQUES, with an extension of 220,000 hectares and more than 800 Kilometers of habitat, represents the" last intact reef system in the Caribbean ".

It is possible to emphasize if we compared the index of growth, size and levels of population, the Roques in many cases surpasses the reef of Bonaire. There is a total restriction of the activities of fishing since it was constituted into a marine national park, for more than 2 decades, which has not happened to the Roques, although there is a very good control of this activity.

They are allowed certain arts of fishing, including one of the fundamental economic activities of the population, which confirms that with a suitable control and citizen awareness it is possible to be developed of sustainable form without much damage of the to the ambiance.

This study also raises the thought that "the Roques", due to extensiveness of its size and to the diversity its marine habitats, constitutes a unique opportunity at the Caribbean for its use and multiple advantage like a MARINE PARK.

The quality and amount of its quality Arrecifal fauna is so much so that what is invested in their care and protection will be given back within a short time. Partly because of the fond market to the tourism of the submarine world and to those that will come to Los Roques to observe fish that are not seen in other localities of the Caribbean will not be disappointed.
