Soap Opera Digest Joins with Broadcast Networks for Daytime Unites for Africa Soap Opera Digest, Americas favorite magazine devoted to soaps, joins with broadcast networks for Daytime Unites For Africa, September 24 - December 2, 2005. New York (PRWEB) September 18, 2005 -- Soap Opera Digest, Americas first authority on soaps has joined with all nine daytime television dramas to raise awareness of the plight of children and families affected by the AIDS crisis in Africa. Each week for nine weeks, one show will reference the crisis of AIDS in Africa in an episode. The magazine will devote one page each week to the campaign.
This grass roots campaign is in memory of a young, bright and enthusiastic 11-year-old who was tragically killed in a car accident a little over a year ago. Through Daytime Unites for Africa, The LOVE, HALLIE Foundation has set in motion an unprecedented initiative that inspires people to be kind, and take action.
The kick-off is scheduled for Saturday, September 24 at the second annual Halliestock in Sunnyside Gardens Park, Sunnyside, Queens, NY. The activity-packed event features performances by South Africas Children of Agape as well as leading musicians, TV and stage actors. Stars from New York shows include Robin Strasser, Melissa Archer and Kamar de los Reyes (One Life To Live), Stephanie Gatschet, Crystal Hunt (Guiding Light), Connie Fletcher (All My Children), Alexandra Chando, Jennifer Landon, Zach Roerig and Jesse Soffer (As The World Turns).
Twelve million children have been orphaned by AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, and tens of millions more have been severely affected. The Children of Agape are approximately 30 orphaned children who live in the Land of a Thousand Hills, just north of Durban, South Africa. It is through their eyes that the American soap opera fan will learn about the larger, more pervasive AIDS problem that has implications for all living on this earth.
This years goal is to raise funds and support activities for housing, treatment, education, operating funds and other direct services to those affected by AIDS. Americas soap operas, their fans and their favorite magazine have marked this initiative with extraordinary enthusiasm. They throw out the challenge to others to join in.
