This seminar will cover both the basic and advanced aspects of Section 1031 exchanges. Attendees will learn not only the basic rules of 1031 exchanges, but also how to analyze the tax and financial aspects of an exchange; the requirements for properties that may be exchanged; how to structure both forward, reverse and improvement exchanges; common and unusual pitfalls in exchanges; and currently developing issues in exchanges.
Presenters are: Keith E. Pershall, Esq., is a shareholder of Weintraub Genshlea Chediak Sproul in Sacramento, California. He practices primarily in the areas of federal and state income, federal estate tax planning and business transactions. Mr. Pershall has over 20 years of experience in a wide variety of tax and business matters, including I.R.C Section 1031 exchanges, mergers and acquisitions, corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies, and international transactions. He has served as an expert witness and consultant on tax matters in litigation, and he frequently lectures on Section 1031 exchanges, as well as other topics. Mr. Pershall is an adjunct professor of law at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he also serves as a member of the International Board of Advisors. Mr. Pershall received his B.A. degree from Stanford University, his J.D. degree from the University Of Santa Clara School Of Law and his LL.M. degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
Bill Angove, vice president of Asset Preservation, Inc., represents a national qualified intermediary for IRC 1031 tax-deferred exchanges. Mr. Angove has 10 years' commercial real estate experience in sales and leasing. Prior to joining Asset Preservation, Inc., he was with Bishop Hawk Commercial Real Estate in Sacramento. Two of his largest transactions were a sale and subsequent lease of a 286,000-square-foot industrial warehouse building, and the other was the sale of 269 acres of industrial land located in Roseville, California. Mr. Angove graduated from California State University of Chico, with a B.S. degree in business. In addition, in his last year at Chico, he was the president of Delta Sigma Pi, the professional business fraternity at Chico State. In his seminars he presents the many aspects of an exchange, and how it is facilitated between the exchanger, escrow and title, and the intermediary. Mr. Angove also teaches the dynamic process in which owners of investment real estate are provided mobility within their portfolio to capitalize on changing market conditions. He promotes a highly interactive seminar by encouraging audience participation and providing a thorough understanding of the structure of the 1031 process, using overhead slides to exemplify this.
