New Web Site To Preserve Veterans' Stories

I Served America.Com, a web site for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, offers veterans news, links to veterans' services, forums to search for friends and post questions, clothing and products for veterans, news of interest to veterans, and, perhaps most importantly, a chance to serve and preserve stories of their time in uniform.

Champaign, IL (PRWEB) October 1, 2005 -- I Served America.Com (www.iservedamerica.com), a web site for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, offers veterans news, links to veterans services, forums to search for friends and post questions, clothing and products designed for veterans and, perhaps most importantly, a chance to share and preserve stories of their time in uniform.

My hope," says site creator Dan Kennedy, who served as a captain in the Army during the Vietnam era, is that we will have an avalanche of stories sufficient to publish a book about the bravery and sacrifice of so many. We are living history and it would be a shame to have our stories die with us. The 2000 census reported that there were 26.4 million veterans in the United States, representing almost 13 percent of the population. Thats a lot of stories."

On the site is a page entitled In Your Words," where veterans are invited to write their 500-word stories and email them to the web site for editing and compilation with other stories. If we get really compelling stories, well post them on the site to share with other site visitors before they come out in book form," says Kennedy, adding that photos are also welcome, preferably emailed in jpeg or gif formats. We also welcome veterans to suggest more links to sites they find helpful and especially to unit sites."

At present, the sites product page is limited to the sale of tee shirts with the words I Served America" beneath the emblem of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard on the front. On the back are the words, Youre Welcome."

Wouldnt it be an inspiration to Americas youth if every veteran in the country wore one of these shirts on Veterans Day?" mused Kennedy.
