Analysts Are Predicting a 30-50% Long Term Increase In Demand for Satellite Based Back-Up Communications

Globalstar is the leader in low cost satellite phones and service, sending more than 10,000 satellite phones to Louisiana and Gulf Region within five days of Hurricane Katrina.

Littleton, CO, (PRWEB) October 8, 2005 -- Wholesale-Telecom is one of Globalstar’s top resellers, who supported the effort in supplying phones to the hurricane hit region. Globalstar continues it’s longstanding relationships with FEMA and the Red Cross by deploying the GECS (Globalstar Emergency Communications System) units with the NCS (National Communications System).

This prototype system consists of 6 Globalstar phones in a crate connected to a “picocell” – a fully functioning cell site that gives coverage over a small area. This allows for specially provisioned cell phones to access the Globalstar network through the picocell while in building or anywhere near the Globalstar phone base unit. The GECS network allows first responders to communicate with each other, or connect to the public telephone network. Globalstar satellite phones built into the portable unit give emergency workers access to critical information when land-based communications are unavailable, such as during and after a disaster and in remote locations. Over the past month, Globalstar has taken the following actions on the network to ensure continued reliability and call quality:

• Greatly increased capacity for Globalstar calls to landline phones

• Increased active Globalstar spectrum allocation

• Continually monitor usage to accommodate regional usage increases

Globalstar is also pleased to announce that construction has begun on a new Globalstar gateway serving Alaska and the Yukon province. This is another great investment in the business, and a key component in the Globalstar strategy of making affordable, high-quality communications available for remote and reliable applications.

Commercial service is anticipated in summer 2006. Please contact David O’Hara at Wholesale-Telecom/NetSat for any questions or details about Globalstar’s products and services.
