(PRWEB) October 17, 2005 -- Arlo Guthrie, along with son Abe on keyboards and Gordon Titcomb on steel, mandolin, and banjo, will sing songs from his recently released CD "Live in Sydney" (RisingSonRecords.com) and update “Alice” again, reminding you that 40 years later the song has morphed to become part of American culture. "A lot of people think 'Alice's Restaurant' was an anti-war song. It's not. It's an anti-idiot song," Guthrie told the Daily News (before going on stage for the first official performance of Alice's Restaurant in 10 years). "So in these times of idiocy, I'm glad the song is still giving people something to smile about." - New York Daily News
Opening the shows will be the "subversive acoustic traditionalist" band, The Mammals, with Pete Seeger's grandson, Tao.
Also, hear the developing plans about the train ride, Christmas on The City of New Orleans, with Arlo Gutherie & Friendsin Bringing Back the Music - Benefiting Victims of Katrina. Arlo Guthrie and friends will travel from Chicago, IL to New Orleans, LA on Amtrak’s “The City of New Orleans,” performing at train stations and venues along the way to benefit the small venues destroyed by Katrina. They plan to depart Chicago on Dec. 5 and arrive in New Orleans on Dec. 17.
On Thanksgiving Day 1965, Arlo Guthrie began writing his epic saga "The Alice's Restaurant Massacree." Based on actual events that took place in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the saga became a song. The song became a record. The record became a major motion picture. And Arlo became a cultural hero, inspiring a whole generation to social consciousness and activism.
Now, Arlo, along with son Abe on keyboards and Gordon Titcomb on steel, mandolin, and banjo, will sing songs from his recently released CD "Live in Sydney" (RisingSonRecords.com) and update “Alice” again, reminding you that 40 years later the song has morphed to become part of American culture.
The "Alice" Celebration started this summer and the critics are saying: "Arlo's between-song narratives are hilarious, serpentine journeys that expose political absurdities with acute comic timing and an aw-shucks tone of self-effacement that serve as dual tributes to his father's legacy." - City Pages, MN
“I wasn't quite sure at first just what all of the fuss was about, and why there needed to be a whole festival just to celebrate one song. But it didn't take long for me to realize the answer is actually quite simple - anybody halfway paying attention to current events can tell you this silly song's context is still relevant, compelling and empowering to the dissenting masses" - The Daily Texan, Univ. of Texas continue throughout the year across the United States.
