(PRWEB) October 30, 2005 -- San Diego’s own Tristan Prettyman talks to MusicMatters Magazine’s contributing writer, Will K. Shilling, about her August debut album for Virgin Records and how she plans on avoiding the “limo to J. Lo Drive & Ashlee Avenue.”

The siren surfer girl from Del Mar might just have what it takes to be the next Norah Jones or Jack Johnson but even on the brink of stardom she’s not afraid to discuss topics like “Why my flip flops smell.”

On signing with Virgin, Prettyman says, “What am I gonna do, run around in a Juicy suit like Jewel and write songs with the Matrix and be the next little… whoever? I wouldn’t even try for a minute to do it, and if I did, I could never keep a straight face.” Instead Prettyman says, “I was like, can I just write my songs like I am, just my little tunes by the girl in corduroy or whatever, and you sell that?”

Prettyman says her album, titled Twenty Three, was not fashioned by a record industry formula. Her acoustic pop ballads were made the way she and her band felt like making them, which she hopes will give the album its own unique organic sound.

Will K. Shilling finds that for Prettyman, defying the typical “raping by the industry machine” may be as simple as just being yourself.
