“Frankenstein: The Original Musical Score,” was written and produced by Watson in his Brandywine, MD home recording studio. The CD will be available at selected local music stores, book stores and specialty shops in Prince George’s County and Charles County. Mr. Watson has agreed to accept deferred payment for his composition, based on sales of the recording.
“We’re lucky to have had Jim agree to take on this challenging project,” said Alex Zavistovich, a founding member of NobleHeart, the Black Box Reperty Company, which is producing “Frankenstein.” Zavistovich is also Director of Operations for the Black Box Theatre.
“Jim’s music captures just the feeling we were looking for,” Zavistovich added.
“These pieces are principally soundscapes, depicting scenes seen and unseen, built to either follow a scene’s arc (The Laboratory) or to lend life to off-stage action (Henry’s Carriage Ride),” Watson explained.
Watson added that the longer form of the CD, as opposed to the music’s use in the production, “allows the motifs to be explored in more detail. The most vibrant example of this is Pain. Very little of this aurally complex piece — inspired by the Creature’s line ‘I have feelings... pain...’ — lives on stage. But how complex must be his feelings and his pain.
“This piece portrays the brutal and jarring dreams and half-remembered life scenes this Creature must somehow endure,” said Watson.
“Frankenstein” runs weekends through November 6 at the Black Box Theatre in the Indian Head Center for the Arts, Indian Head, MD. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 PM; Sundays at 3 PM. Ticket price is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and students.
WARNING: This production features gunshots, loud noises and numerous stylized depictions of murder.
