Real Wizards and a Real-Life School of Wizardry

(PRWEB) November 2, 2005 -- On opening night of the new Harry Potter movie, "The Goblet of Fire," many of the costumed Witches and Wizards you will see in the lobby will be the real thing. Hundreds of students and teachers from the online Grey School of Wizardry will be attending the latest in their favorite series of films in full regalia. So look for those robes, cloaks, and pointy hats, and ask them: “Are you a real Wizard?” They just might be.

The fourth Harry Potter movie, "The Goblet of Fire," takes us back to J.K. Rowling’s fictional “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” made famous as the setting for six novels and three previous movies. These books and films have become the most popular literary phenomenon of all time. Millions of readers and viewers would love to board the “Hogwarts Express” and travel to a remote academy that teaches real magick and Wizardry.

Well, as so often happens, fiction has become reality.

On August 1, 2004, the Grey School of Wizardry opened its virtual doors to a flood of students eager to enroll in a real-life equivalent of “Hogwarts.” Over six months of prior work and preparation had gone into this online academy of arcana, and we were very proud to finally offer it to the world. It is incorporated as a non-profit Educational Institution in the State of California.

Inspired by Headmaster Oberon Zell-Ravenheart’s Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard (New Page Books, 2004), the Grey School of Wizardry provides a more extensive program of studies in all areas of Wizardry and Magick, at an Apprenticeship grade in seven “year-levels.” Graduates are certified as “Journeyman Wizards.”

Initially designed for students of ages 11-18, the Grey School has proven to appeal greatly to adults as well, who comprise 75% of the 520+ students currently enrolled. Some students are in their 70s. We are particularly pleased that some of our students are entire families of parents and children studying together.

In fact, while there are now several on-line schools teaching real magick and Witchcraft, there are no others with a specialized curriculum in genuine Wizardry. And there are no other on-line schools in this field that admit students under the age of 18.

Taking the Grimoire’s basic curriculum as a starting point, the Grey School of Wizardry currently offers over 130 classes, with lessons, assignments, practical exercises, and exams. Classes commonly include links to other websites with specialized materials, and color graphics and images which could not be reproduced in the printed book.

Class materials and lessons are developed and taught by a highly-qualified Faculty, presently numbering 30. New classes are added continually. Both the Grimoire and the Grey School focus on magick rather than spirituality, although a few classes cover mythology and comparative religions.

We have categorized sixteen “colors of magick” which we have designated for “Departments” of the Grey School. Each of these has its Dean and Professors. These are:

1. Wizardry (indigo)

2. Nature Studies (silver)

3. Magickal Practice (gold)

4. Metapsychics (aqua)

5. Healing (blue)

6. Wortcunning (green)

7. Divination (yellow)

8. Performance Magics (orange)

9. Alchemy & Magickal Sciences (red)

10. Lifeways (pink)

11. Beast Mastery (brown)

12. Cosmology & Metaphysics (violet)

13. Mathemagicks (clear)

14. Ceremonial Magick (white)

15. Lore (grey)

16. Dark Arts (black)

The Grey School is highly interactive, and includes not just study materials, but four Elemental “Houses” for youths (Sylphs, Salamanders, Undines, and Gnomes); and “Lodges” for adults (Winds, Flames, Waters, and Stones) in which students communicate directly with each other. There is also the “Great Hall,” where all students and faculty members can interact freely, as well as various Departmental Clubs, led by the respective Deans.

We have a program of student leadership with Prefects and Captains for the Houses and Lodges, and a competitive system of merit points with trophies awarded semi-annually to one House and one Lodge. There is a student-run School newsletter (Whispering Grey Matters). The Library and School Store (“Magick Alley”) have many resources available to students at any time.

Tuition for the entire first “year-level” is only $18 for students under 18, or $30 for students 18 and older. There are no other fees. One “year-level” is 24 credits, or about 12 classes. Full details appear on the Grey School Website. Faculty opportunities are also available.

“To those who study the occult, the name of Oberon Zell-Ravenheart is internationally known and respected. Perhaps, as some have written, Oberon is the real Albus Dumbledore to aspiring Harry Potters!” —Lee Prosser, Fate Magazine 3/19/2004
