The conference was held at Grand Island’s Mid-Town Holiday Inn.
The conference was planned and organized by the Nebraska Association of Bed and Breakfast (NABB). NABB is a non-profit volunteer organization requires all member inns be approved and inspected. Food preparation, amenities and administrative items are also evaluated as part of the inspection. Every member inn must pass inspection to insure compliance with Association standards.
Attendees traveled from all parts of the state to learn about new trends and issues affecting the B&B industry. Presentations included subjects as diverse as travelers’ changing needs, the influence of the Internet, partnering with wineries, and the day concluded with an informal round table where discussion of tips and hints about the business of innkeeping was shared.
The keynote speaker was Amelia Painter, Webmaster for three Bed and Breakfast state associations. Her presentation was geared to the audience and Painter covered all aspects of the special needs of Bed & Breakfast Web site. She also covered inn marketing and how innkeepers could meet the challenges and opportunities of the Web.
Painter’s firm recently redesigned NABB’s Web site and now manages it. Today most B&B’s have a Web site and more and more innkeepers are offering amenities important to business travelers, such as wireless high speed Internet connections and work desks.
