Bill McCreary recently received certification to issue Indiana Certificates of Technical Achievement (CTA) to students at IPS Career and Technology Center. The Certificates are issued by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and signed by Governor Frank OBannon.

CTAs document the skills each student has performed in the classroom and provide proof that they have real skills needed by Indiana companies. Students are assessed on skills identified by local businesses as those needed to succeed in the workplace. The CTAs are cumulative and the students may be assessed on an on-going basis in the classroom or in the workplace to document additional skills they acquire. CTAs are also available to postsecondary students and incumbent workers.

CTAs are given in eight occupation areas. They include business support, electronics, metalworking, health, bioscience, plastics, printing and advanced manufacturing. The first Certificates were issued in March 1996. To date, more than 30,000 CTAs have been awarded to Hoosiers. More than 300 teachers are certified statewide.
