Call for Nominations – 42ND Annual Georgia Author Of The Year Awards

The Georgia Writers Association, in collaboration with Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College’s School of Literature, Communication and Culture, announces the opening of the nominations process for the 42nd annual Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA). The awards will recognize Georgia authors and their achievements. The competition offers recognition in two tracks, traditionally published books and self-published books. Anyone may enter or nominate an author’s 2005-published book.

The awards will recognize Georgia authors and their achievements. The competition offers recognition in two tracks, traditionally published books and self-published books. Anyone may enter or nominate an author’s 2005-published book.

The call for nominations is for the following categories:

Fiction

Creative Nonfiction (Divisions are Memoir, History, Essay, Biography, Self-Help, Inspirational)

Short Stories/Anthologies

First Novel

Poetry

Children’s & Young Adult Literature

Lifetime Achievement

Many novelists, poets, nonfiction writers and other authors living and working in Georgia published a book in calendar year 2005.Eligibility requirements are (1) authors must be Georgia residents and (2) have a book published in calendar year 2005. (books may have been published anywhere).

Following evaluation by independent judges, the award winners will be announced at the event on Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Georgia Tech’s Robert Ferst Center for the Arts. A banquet prior to the awards requires paid dinner reservations.

Now is the time for nomination and recognition. The Georgia Writers Association acknowledges the wealth of literary talent from all across the State of Georgia and encourages and educates newer writers seeking support.
