Dr. Nissan Pilest, well known Board Certified Dermatologist in Irvine, California recently attended a special Continuing Medical Education program developed by the University of California Irvine School of Medicine and StrataMed.

Attending physician speakers discussed and shared community standard techniques in a wide variety of cosmetic enhancement methodologies. A further discussion and collaborative sharing of "off label" uses from this who's who group of physicians increased insight into the new and forward thinking uses of injectables such as Juvederm, Sculptra, Botox, Dysport, Radiesse, Restylane as well as lasers and skin tightening systems.

"This industry is in fast-track development," shares Dr. Pilest. "We are weekly learning of new scientific evidence of truly phenomenal technologies, both with injectable fillers, neuroproteins and laser systems that defy anything we ever could have imagined even a dozen years ago."

Dr. Pilest is a 30 year veteran Dermatologist and assistant Clinical Professor at UCI who has been chosen by many of the industry leaders as a physician trainer, including Solta Medical as a trainer for the Fraxel Repair laser system; Bioform as a medical faculty education member in the injection techniques for Radiesse; a speaker and trainer for Allergan's Juvederm and Botox; Medicis' Restylane and Dysport and has been a long time member of the educational speakers' bureau for Candela Laser.

"The growth of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures is outpacing surgical procedures by leaps and bounds," he notes. "In 2008, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that 83% of cosmetic procedures in this country were nonsurgical. That shows an incredible public preference for 'softer' procedures which carry less risk, downtime, pain and cost."

Part of the program was dedicated to body shaping and skin tightening. Newer "nonsurgical lipolysis" technology is in FDA trials.

Dr. Pilest enthuses, "This is especially exciting for patients who have specific areas of fat deposits where surgery would be overkill. A system which disrupts the fat cell membrane with little more than an externally applied source of ultrasound so the body can whisk the fat away through the blood system…who would have ever thought that was a possibility? When it's available will I have it for my patients? Absolutely!

We're all on the edge of our seats to see what the next breakthrough will be."

Dr. Pilest is a Board Certified Dermatologist with a private laser and cosmetic dermatology clinic in Irvine, Ca. The practice, Total Dermatology, is a full service cosmetic and surgical dermatology provider for Orange County residents. He is a training physician for a number of the leading cosmetic industry names including Allergan, Medicis, Bioform, Fraxel (Solta) and Candela.
