Ft. Lauderdale, FL – January 4, 2002

Leon Films, Inc., a Florida based company, has announced that it is starting to shoot its first independent DV feature film, The Northern Star, on Sunday January 6, 2002 in mostly interior locations in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. The film is expected to go into postproduction by end January after a marathon two-week shoot. The film will be ready for select festivals and theatrical distribution by end March 2002.

Based on an original script by Aaron Uris, who is also producing and directing the feature, The Northern Star has a cast of 46 and crew of 21 put together from the local (Florida) talent pool. The film’s story line, being photographed in a voyeuristic style, is about Sharon Booth, a female American journalist, set out to interview the most reclusive leader of a totalitarian state in Asia, unexpectedly discovering a deeply guarded secret and finding herself in a web of intrigue. Sharon meets a most unlikely and powerful ally in the very heart of the dictatorship she has to escape from and a strange set of events take her from the reclusive state to Beijing, Washington, D.C., New York and finally to Miami, during which she is faced with the hypocrisies and indifference surrounding human relationships across and at all levels; love, nationalities, politics, cultures, and media. According to writer/director Uris, “The Northern Star is not a standard action feature but rather a dreamlike venture, in the thriller-drama genre, into the coldness of the world we have to live in and find our own lighthouses.”
