Peters is a graduate from Michigan State University. In 1982 he received his juris doctor from The University of Toledo College of Law where he was a Note and Comment Editor on the Law Review. Kantra, Jr., Executive Vice President and Managing Director of National City banks Private Client Group in Michigan.

Peters has served as President of the Eaton County Bar Association, and the Greater Lansing Estate Planning Council.
