New York, NY (PRWEB) November 29, 2005

Sharon Rich, author of “Sweethearts: The Timeless Love Affair On-screen and Off Between Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy,” will attend holiday events in Los Angeles and New York honoring the 1930s MGM stars. She will sign books and answer questions about the controversial MacDonald-Eddy romance, which was kept secret for decades since both stars were married to others. The Los Angeles event is December 4, New York is December 11; tickets are available online at http://www.maceddy.com or at the door.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the first MacDonald-Eddy film, “Naughty Marietta.” It was the sleeper hit of 1935 and won most popularity polls of the year, but lost the Best Picture Oscar to the more costly MGM feature, “Mutiny on the Bounty.” The team went on to make more box office hits like “Rose Marie,” “Maytime,” “Sweethearts” and “New Moon.”

While women swooned over tall, blond, blue-eyed Eddy, they still would have been surprised to know the passion he was capable of, as expressed in this diary excerpt written after a 1943 tryst with MacDonald: “…this night you were intoxicating beyond my fondest dreams… so wonderful… how I wanted to forever keep your lips to mine....And then you said, 'You're making me dizzy' But dearest, that is just what I wanted you to say...did you know I understand all your secrets so well?... We had been together three whole days and nights without allowing this to happen it was all the sweeter for the waiting. I crossed with you to your bedroom door, do you remember?.... I felt your numb little fingers cling to mine, and you whispered my name ... with joy in my heart I lifted my darling in my arms and carried her to my own bedroom and gathered you in heaven's own earthly bliss.”

This diary entry can be read in full in the first chapter of “Sweethearts,” posted online at http://www.maceddy.com.
