Alerts typically occur during high peak periods and/or system emergencies and usually last a few hours. The reduction in electric consumption is generally achieved by operating generators, other energy management practices or through building load curtailment. Choosing to participate in a real-time, turn-key reliability DRP managed by Curtailment Service Provider (CSP),Comverge , Inc., required that Wright Line also take part in a Comverge energy assessment. The assessment determined which systems the company could reduce during high demand periods. Comverge also provided Wright Line with access to software tools that monitor its energy consumption levels. As a result of the energy assessment, it was agreed that, when alerted, Wright Line would have two hours to reduce its energy consumption by 300 KW by shutting down its powder coating and wood shop systems, as well as all building air conditioning. "The demand response program provides a win-win situation for Wright Line and the ISO New England power grid," said George Hunt, Comverge Senior Vice President, Commercial & Industrial Sales. "The efficiency and reliability of the electric grid infrastructure will improve, while also providing Wright Line with measurable financial benefits." To learn more about DRPs visit click here.
