Karen Stone, PIMA Instuctor, Receives Washington State Veternary Award Karen Stone, a veterinary assistant instructor at Pima Medical Institute, 9709 3rd Ave. NE in Seattle, recently received the Humane Animal Welfare Award from the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association at the Washington State Veterinary Medicine Association Convention. (PRWEB) December 1, 2005 -- Karen Stone, a veterinary assistant instructor at Pima Medical Institute, 9709 3rd Ave. NE in Seattle, recently received the Humane Animal Welfare Award from the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association at the Washington State Veterinary Medicine Association Convention.
Stone received the honor in recognition of her tireless efforts toward the advancement of animal welfare through extraordinary service. Stone has provided thousands of hours caring for animals. Her accomplishments include spearheading the Feral Cat Spay and Neuter Clinic, as well as forging a partnership between the Spay and Neuter Clinic and Pima Medical Institute. More than 5,000 cats had been spay and neutered at PMI’s campus at 1627 Eastlake Ave. East in Seattle during its five years of operation.
In July PMI’s campus relocated to its current location on 3rd Avenue and the clinic moved to its own facility at ? In addition to helping at the clinic, Stone has fostered numerous cats and kittens, assisted with animal rescue efforts, as well as providing care and comfort to very sick of dying cats.
“For the 15 years that Karen has worked for Pima Medical Institute, we have seen first hand how dedicated she is to helping animals,” said George Borchers, campus director of the medical career college. “She is also just as devoted to educating compassionate and knowledgeable veterinary assistants to provide outstanding care for our furry friends. We all congratulate her on receiving this well-deserved award.”
Stone was nominated for the honor by Dr. Pamela Powell, DVM and was selected from a pool of nominees to receive the award. Stone has worked as an assistant instructor at PMI for 15 years. PMI’s Veterinary Assistant Program is a 26.5 credit-hour certificate program with classes starting approximately every six weeks. The students are trained to perform as an entry-level veterinary assistant. Emphasis is placed on small animal techniques. Classes are 31 weeks in length and total 720 hours of training.
