Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp. Makes Tremendous Strides In Educating The Public About Personal Finance

Credit Counseling agency promotes financial literacy.

AGAWAM, MA (PRWEB) December 2, 2005 -- In keeping with its mission to educate individuals regarding personal finance, Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp. conducts public seminars at high schools, colleges and a variety of not-for-profit community centers. To date, Cambridge’s education staff has delivered 485 seminars in 2005, an increase of 147% from 2004. These seminars resulted in the education of more than 11,000 participants.

“Everyone in the community has been receptive to our educational efforts,” said Christopher Viale, president of Cambridge Credit. “This has been a great year. Along with the increase in our initiatives we have created some innovative new programs, and we are looking forward to 2006.”

·    In March 2005, the Cambridge Education staff collaborated with the Springfield Public School System to develop a curriculum for the Money Management portion of their School-to-Career program, which began in September.

·    In September 2005, Cambridge unveiled its Self-Paced Program. This offering was created specifically for those organizations whose clientele fluctuates, inhibiting the ability to maintain traditional curriculum schedules for participants (e.g., halfway houses, prisoner day-reporting programs, etc.).

·    In October 2005, Cambridge released its Budgeting with the Connors DVD, based on the company’s Learn Now or Pay Later budgeting curriculum. The program illustrates the necessity for individuals within a household to have an open dialogue regarding their spending, and offers insight on how expenses may be adjusted so that a reasonable savings plan can be established.

In 2006, Cambridge plans to separate its well-received Learn Now or Pay Later Young Adult curriculum into two new initiatives, one for high school students, and another for college students. “The fundamental aspects of the current curriculum will be relatively unchanged, but additional units will be included to satisfy each audience’s specific financial needs,” according to Viale. “As the landscape of personal finance continues to change, our curriculum must be updated to reflect those changes. Young people have more financial issues to contend with these days, and our objective is to help them make sound decisions.”

The new young adult curriculum will include such topics as the Psychology of Spending, Taxes & Withholding, Paying for College, Buying Your First Automobile, Preparing for Your First Apartment, and Living at Home in the Post-College Years.

Cambridge is also pleased to announce the expansion of its Net Gain program, which was developed in partnership with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and USA TODAY to improve financial literacy among high school students. Between the fall and spring of 2005, 102,000 students are scheduled to have participated in the 16-week Net Gain curriculum, which is delivered in high schools nationwide.
