The Firefly Cellular Phone for Kids EasyCall Cellular (www.easycallcellular.com) announced today that they now offer the popular Firefly Mobile Phone for Kids. (PRWEB) December 5, 2005 -- Cell phones for kids - it's a natural evolution. Kids today are spending more and more time away from their parents which leads to plenty of opportunities for something bad to happen. Parents worry about their kids safety more than ever, so is it any wonder that they're scooping up these simple to use cell phones for their kids?
"The Firefly cell phone has become the hot item for the Christmas season 2005. Kids want it and parents love it!", said Colleen Easley, CEO of EasyCall Cellular. "And as more and more kids find out about the Firefly, we think we'll continue to see this phone grow in popularity. We don't see this phone as a toy, but as a safety tool designed to give assurance to both parents and kids."
The Firefly is geared to kids ages 6 - 12. It's small and sturdy, and shaped to fit in a kid's hand. It was designed to be easy to use with only 5 keys. Kids can easily contact their parents by pressing the mom or dad speed-dial keys. The Firefly offers parents simple management tools to keep them in control of who their kids are talking to. They can program up to 20 phone numbers into the phone's speed-dial memory, and they can also program the phone so it only accepts calls from specified callers. And of course the Firefly has caller ID so the child always knows who's calling. Another plus is the special 911 assistance key that allows a child to call for emergency help quickly. Battery life is up to 6 hours talk time and 205 hours standby, and it comes with a battery charging unit.
But the Firefly wouldn't be a "kid's" phone unless it had some great kid features too. Not only is it small and easy to use, but it has a cool light-up fireworks display when the phone rings. Interchangeable colored skins are available, including an awesome glow-in-the dark style, and kids can personalize their Firefly with 12 ring tones, 5 animations and 7 screen colors. It comes with a backpack clip so it won't get lost, and you can add a cool little mesh pouch/case that attaches to a belt loop or backpack strap. Other accessories available include a lanyard, vehicle charging unit, and a hands free headset that is actually designed to fit a kid's ear.
So what does it cost?
You can buy the Firefly phone as a prepaid service at the on-line Target store (www.telebaymall.com/index.php?jump=7&ID=easycall) for $99, and then continue to buy the prepaid airtime cards to keep it working. Or you can buy it on month to month plan through OPEX Wireless. (www.easycallcellular.com/firefly.shtml)
Opex sells the Firefly for $89 and does not require the purchase of prepaid airtime cards. They give you the option of receiving a monthly statement or you can auto-pay by credit card and view your bill on-line. The costs for the simple On-the-Fly plan for the Firefly phone is 25¢ per day network access charge, 9.9¢ per call, and 9.9¢ per minute. The plan includes free roaming, free caller ID, and free call waiting.
The benefits of OPEX Wireless
No prepaid airtime cards to buy, no minimum usage requirement, no contract, no time commitment, a monthly billing statement or auto-pay by credit card. Older kids can get the Opex On-the-Fly plan with a more sophisticated phone, or they can upgrade to one of the bundled minute plans. If you have more than one kid in the household needing a phone, you can choose a shared minutes plan.
