Highlands Ranch, CO (PRWEB) November 13, 2009

Infolink Consulting announced today the delivery of a high performance, cost effective, and easy-to-use business intelligence (BI) solution to the State of North Dakota using IBM Cognos 8.4 Information Management software.

Prior to this BI solution, the State relied heavily on reporting directly from its PeopleSoft ERP production system. This approach was time consuming and unfriendly to business users, in addition to negatively impacting system performance. "All agencies within the State can now get on-demand reports very quickly for their selected criteria to support analysis of both core financial and human resources information," stated Pam Sharp, Director of the Office of Management and Budget. "This is significant as it frees up our staff time and provides additional insights so that we can continually improve our services to the citizens of North Dakota."

The new BI system includes both IBM Cognos cubes and relational reporting capability. The cubes are designed for fast and flexible reporting against dimensional data where users can quickly "slice and dice" information such as headcount by organization, demographics, job categories, and employee events (e.g., salary changes, retirement eligibility) - all at the same time. Drill-through capability from the cubes allows users to move from summary information such as an Income Statement to the detail accounting journal activity.

Chuck Lang, Director of Accounting for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), describes the solution as "exactly what I was looking for. It's actually fun and exciting!" In addition to greater ease of use and timeliness of information, the new solution helps to pinpoint data quality and coding errors in their ERP system so corrections can be made promptly.

As part of the initiative, Infolink worked collectively with both ITD (Information Technology Department) and OMB to provide project management, business analysis, technical infrastructure and database design, metadata modeling, and report development. The State team also appreciated Infolink's customized on-site training using the State's own data, which provided a solid and cost effective learning experience.
