Help for Parents Who Want to Reconnect With Their Kids

With parenting becoming more difficult, Parent Coaches help moms and dads make better sense of their kids.

San Rafael, CA (PRWEB) December 30, 2006 -- Along with New Year’s resolutions to quit smoking, lose weight and eat better, many parents vow to get closer to their kids. But, as with most efforts to change, their resolve crumbles as reality sets in. Their kids aren’t interested in connecting and, in fact, they’re resistant, according to Todd Sarner, Co-Director of Transformative Parenting, a Marin-based parent coaching and educational consulting organization. http://www.transformativeparenting.com

“Every day we talk to parents and educators who are mystified by kids today. They see escalating problems such as aggression, anger, depression, bullying, talking back, and drug abuse, but they don’t know what to do about it,” says Sarner. “There is this enormous need from parents who sense that parenting is becoming harder than it used to be and who want a context for understanding what this change is about.”

Sarner’s practice incorporates aspects of psychology, life coaching and education. With a master’s degree in counseling psychology, he draws heavily on the work of Dr. Gordon Neufeld, a developmental psychologist and popular parenting expert in Canada.

In his best-selling book, Hold On To Your Kids, Neufeld introduces the phenomena of peer orientation — peers replacing parents in the lives of children, which he calls the most disturbing and misunderstood trends of our time. Sarner has trained extensively with Neufeld and is hosting Neufeld’s Power to Parent weekend workshop in Corte Madera, California March 3-5.

In addition to his in-person and telephone coaching services, Sarner conducts lectures and workshops for parents and educators throughout Northern California. For more information and a schedule of events, visit www.transformativeparenting.com or call (415) 289-6515.
