American Military University Makes List of Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities

Online University’s Selection is the Third in a Row by Military Advanced Education

Charles Town, W.Va. (Vocus) December 3, 2009

Military Advanced Education (MAE) has selected American Military University (AMU) as a top school in MAE’s 3rd Annual Guide to Military Friendly Colleges and Universities. AMU is a member institution of American Public University System (APUS), an accredited online university system that educates more than 50,000 adult learners worldwide. APUS also includes American Public University (APU) and is one of the nation’s largest providers of higher education to the armed forces.

Editors from KMI Media Group, publishers of MAE, selected the military-friendly schools from institutions who educate a significant number of military servicemembers. AMU was founded in 1991 by a former Marine Corps officer and instructor and is one of the first online universities. It focuses on meeting the unique educational needs of those who serve –a very mobile population with extended, irregular schedules and limited financial resources.

"AMU is proud to be the choice of more than 45,000 servicemembers seeking to acquire a college education,” said Jim Sweizer, vice president of military programs for AMU. “We have a nationally recognized and dedicated faculty, staff that understand and cater to the needs of servicemembers and veterans, and a student body that is proud to be part of a military-friendly university.”

AMU continues to serve and attract military students with unique mission-related degree programs, affordable tuition, an undergraduate book grant, monthly class starts and a staff that understands the military community. More than 45,000 active duty, Guard, and Reserve members are enrolled in 76 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Military Advanced Education is a leading publication linking soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines – and their families – with military-friendly colleges and universities. AMU’s selection will be featured in the November/December issue of Military Advanced Education.
