Lynchburg, VA (PRWEB) December 5, 2009 StarTek (NYSE:SRT) in Lynchburg has captured the “best in world” gold medal in the category “Best Community Spirit” from the 2009 Contact Center World Awards. The medal was awarded at the World Finals competition this month in Las Vegas. Gold medal winners from the first round of competition from the Americas, Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC ) divisions vied for the top honor. Companies from South Africa and Singapore won silver and bronze. “To be the best in the entire world is just an incredible honor,” said Robert O’Leary, site director in Lynchburg. “Our competition was some of the largest contact centers in the world and for our Lynchburg site with 300 employees to win is a remarkable feat. We are very proud of our team and especially Brenda Nash who presented our program at the World Finals.” “We were competing as a site against two large corporate community programs that had much larger budgets and numbers of employees,” said Brenda Nash, operation manager at StarTek in Lynchburg . “I think the judges were impressed by the diversity of our activities and the level of commitment from our employees. We could boast 100% participation in our programs. When we asked them later why they voted for us it was because the community effort was done by the employees instead of having the company just write a large check.” StarTek’s 15 minute presentation included a video featuring representatives from some of the organizations StarTek benefitted either through fundraising efforts or volunteer hours. It also featured employees expressing their enthusiasm and interest in participating in the community events. “We have found that our reputation for community involvement has been an effective recruiting and retention tool. It has made a difference in the kind of employee who wants to work with us and the team spirit at our site makes them want to stay,” continued O’Leary. Lynchburg employees volunteered 3,234 community service hours, worked with 18 different local organization and charities, and raised $37,205 in 2008. Over the past 3 years employees in Lynchburg have volunteered 8,397 hours in the local community and raised $135,493 for charity. Some of the organizations supported by StarTek in Lynchburg include American Red Cross, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Lynchburg Humane Society and the Family Alliance
