RadioScape's Module Approach Enables Vestel to Easily Integrate DAB Into Home Theatre Market

RadioScape DAB module used in Vestel's Home Theatre System.

London, UK (PRWEB) January 9, 2006 -- Vestel, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics manufacturers, has been working with RadioScape to create a Home Theatre System with integrated DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) capability. By using RadioScape’s unique, Software Defined Digital Radio modules, the product was designed in only 3 months and is available in the shops now as the Wharfdale 400HT priced at £99.99.

“Putting DAB into our Home Theatre design proved to be a much easier task than we thought it would be,” said Mr. Erdem Gunduz, Product Manager at Vestel. “RadioScape’s module provides all the DAB functionality in one package that is easy to integrate into the system as it is controlled via the I2C interface.”

The main processor controlling the Audio/Video part was used to re-sample the analogue output of the module, reducing the complexity of Sample Rate conversions (48KHz versus 44.1KHz). Control commands were then sent from the Master CPU to the module to say Tune Up, Tune Down or Auto-Scan.

One of the many benefits of RadioScape’s software approach is that custom features can be easily added. For Vestel’s application, DAB functionality was incorporated into a high quality 5.1 channel surround sound system allowing users to have a high quality home cinema system with integrated digital radio in one box.

“It is very exciting to see DAB branching out into new application areas,” added Kevin Parslow, RadioScape’s VP of Sales and Marketing. “DAB provides listeners with a wealth of content to choose from and the high quality amplifier and speakers of a Home Theatre System will bring out the best of DAB’s digital sound.”
