Jazz Made in Heaven a New York Style Musical Tribute to a Jazz Legend

Baha'i center salutes a fallen giant on Tuesday evening.

(PRWEB) January 9, 2006 -- Forty years ago, in August of 1966, the greatest jazz pianist of his generation, Earl “Bud” Powell, was found wandering through the streets of New York City in the last stages of tuberculosis and malnutrition. He was forty-two years old.

This Tuesday evening, January 10th, New York’s Baha’i Center is celebrating Powells’s legacy with a stunning performance featuring pianist Paul Winston, bassist Michael Fleming and drummer Kalil Madi. The program promises to deliver a dazzling evening of pyrotechnics wedded to tunes by Powell, Parker, Winston and others.

The Baha’i Center’s Dizzy Gillespie Auditorium is at 53 E. 11th St. between University Place and Broadway. Sets are at 8 and 10 pm. Admission is $15 ($10 for students). Entrance at the door or make reservations at (212) 222-5159.
