David Ratowitz Victorious in Nominating Petition Challenge

All objections against District 5 congressional candidate’s signatures withdrawn at 11th hour

Chicago (Vocus) December 10, 2009

Minutes before the Illinois State Board of Elections was set to formally dismiss the case, objectors to 5th Congressional District candidate David Ratowitz’s nominating petitions withdrew their challenge.

An official records review on December 3 overwhelmingly upheld the validity of Ratowitz’s petition signatures, finding that some of the objectors' claims were based on technicalities overruled by the Illinois Supreme Court more than 30 years ago.

“We have maintained from the beginning of this process that the challenge against our nominating petitions was baseless,” explains Ratowitz. “Our campaign was certainly vindicated today with this ruling.

“Clearly, legal maneuvering and personal attacks are short-sighted means of blunting a strong opponent,” adds Ratowitz. “There is no substitute for the type of honest and vigorous campaigning that I, my team and my supporters have undertaken.”

He adds, “Ratowitz for Congress is now free to focus exclusively on comprehensive voter outreach to District 5’s conservative base.”
