'MacIntyre's Underworld' returns for new series with dynamic double header.

(PRWEB) January 20, 2006

'MacIntyre's Underworld' returns for a new series on Monday January 23rd on Five with a Manchester Gangland double-header - two feature documentaries on one of Britain's most notorious crime families. The first series proved a creative and public success winning up to 21% audience shares and receiving huge critical acclaim.

Series 1 featured the powerful and insightful 'Gangster' also included the films 'Vendetta' and 'Super grass' , and was first shown in the UK on Five in March 2005. The films showed an intimate and unparalleled access to strong central characters, revealing the dark and sinister side of the cities in which they are based.

MacIntyre's Underworld: Gangster Monday 23rd 11pm Five :

'Gangster' follows the life and times of Dominic Noonan aka Mr Lattlay Fottfoy ( Look after those who look after you - Fuck off those who fuck off you ) - a gangster who creates havoc for the Police with his criminality while serving in some underground capacity as a social worker and fixer for his community. The show gives the audience a disturbing look at a parallel society where in the absence of the Police, a world of gangsters and street enforcers tackle problems as diverse as noisy neighbours and baby snatching. The episode premiered at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival. These programmes offer a rare insight into a whole stratum of society that is naturally camera-shy, and suspicious of outsiders. Each film concentrated on a central, charismatic criminal with a proven track record who guided Donal and the viewers through their dangerous environment.

MacIntyre's Underworld' A Gangster's Funeral' Jan 30th at 11pm on Five is an explosive update on 'Gangster'. It revisits the charismatic and dangerous Dominic Noonan; a gay, Urdu speaking criminal who has spent half his life in jail. He orchestrated the Strangeways riots, and causes as much trouble to the authorities behind bars as he does on the outside. We catch up with him as he faces trial on charges of kidnapping and torture and deals with the consequences of his brother's murder. New avenues are explored, including looking at the lives of the women and children who surround him in this diverse and chaotic world.

The original programme 'Gangster' is being re-transmitted 23rd January on Five. These two documentary films marks Donal MacIntyre`s debut as a Director/ Producer. They have been sold around the world and 'Gangster' has been nominated for three major awards. In gangland Britain it is cult viewing and within hours of the broadcast of the first series bootleg copies of the show were being sold in street markets and in pubs. An attempt by Greater Manchester Police to ban the show only added to its reputation.

Five other MacIntyre's Underworlds are in production and include the first ever access film with gangster/terrorist Johnny `Mad Dog` Adair as he embarks on a new life in Scotland after death threats from former comrades forces him out of Northern Ireland.

On the 6th of February: A MacIntyre Investigation: Nazi Hate Rock is broadcast at 11pm followed by a debate programme discussing the issues raised in the show.
